Rooms/Areas:
1) Staff area w/ break room, large staff workroom, toilet, 3 offices, conference room, storage area.

  • Storage should hold 2500
  • Staff workroom should be large enough to accommodate a staff of 8 people with the main computer and large work
  • Storage area for gardening
  • Conference room should accommodate 20
  • Each office should have room for a computer. Head office has a printer. Others share a printer in the workroom. Work room has the main library computer.

2) Main reading room

  • Seats 100
  • Accommodates 10,000 books
  • Has a check-out/reception counter large enough for 2 staff and 2 computer work stations and one printer -- needs to be directly accessible to office area and visible from the main entrance and children's
  • Has a book return
  • Has an easily accessible counter that will accommodate 6 computer work stations and 2 printers for the library card catalog

3) Special Collections

a) Genocide Studies
  • Seats 60 people
  • Accommodates 2,000 books
b) Rwandan history and literature
  • Seats 30 people
  • Accommodates 1,000 books
c) African history and literature

  • Special magazine/newspaper racks for 100 magazines/newspapers
g) Children's Section
  • Seats 100 children ages 5 to 12
  • Accommodates 2,000 books
  • Small magazine rack for 100 children magazines
  • Includes a desk for the Children's Librarian

2) 6 printers -- 1 color for main office, 1 for staff work room, 1 for check-out, 2 for card catalogue, 1 for reference room
3) 2 photocopiers - 1 for staff work room and 1 for public use (with ability to charge a fee)
4) Detection devise to prevent people from taking controlled books out of the library
