SHEBA RUGEGE HAKIZA

Sheba Rugege Hakiza possesses a multidisciplinary background in biological sciences and public health. She received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Grambling State University and an M.P.H. in Community Health Sciences from the University of Illinois.

Presently, she works for Westat where she is a Study Manager for the Retrovirus Epidemiology Donor Study. Prior to joining Westat, she conducted a 12-month malaria study in Kampala, Uganda. Other experiences include working as an HIV/AIDS Program Assistant at the Springfield Public Health Department, a Health and Safety Instructor for the American Red Cross, and investigating HIV and Karposi's Sarcoma Herpes Virus in Ugandan blood donors.

In addition, she is the Special Events Coordinator for the Association of Scientists and Physicians of African Descent and a Counselor at the Rockville Pregnancy Center.

Her interest in building the first Public Library in Rwanda stems from her Rwandan ancestry and her demonstrated commitment to improve the welfare and quality of life of people in need.
